We are honored to introduce Karen Petty Officer 3rd Class as our Hero of the Month! Karen’s journey is one of resilience, dedication, and inspiration. From her service in the Navy to her impactful contributions at Robin’s Home, Karen embodies the heart of our community.

Karen served in the Navy for three years, and one of her proudest moments was graduating from Naval Basic Training with 64 other recruits. “No personal goal has touched me more than seeing myself and 64 other recruits graduate,” Karen shares.
Karen discovered Robin’s Home through Butler Healthcare Systems Domiciliary and lived there for 18 months, working toward her goals of securing permanent housing, employment, and recovery. “The whole trajectory of my life changed from that time forward,” she says. “I want other female veterans who have been in my situation to see there is hope and that recovery is possible.”
To Karen, being part of Robin’s Home means feeling safe and supported. “I am in an environment that encourages me. We are extremely supportive of one another, and there’s never a day that goes by that I don’t get a good laugh in!”

One of Karen’s favorite memories involves Rosie, the house cat. “Animals are underrated in recovery,” Karen says. “Rosie was my therapy and never fell short of causing chaos. During a residents’ meeting, she brought a live mole into the house. Next thing I know, I hear screaming and Mary jumping onto the dining room table!” Rosie still brings joy to the community.
Karen’s gratitude for Robin’s Home motivates her to give back. “I’m so excited to give back to the community what was so freely given to me,” she says.
Outside of Robin’s Home, Karen enjoys spending time with her daughters, gardening, paddleboarding, and helping others through Narcotics Anonymous.
Karen’s story is a testament to the power of community and the strength of the human spirit. Thank you, Karen, for your service, your dedication, and the hope you bring to those around you!
