A Call to Honor: The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Replica

The Zelienople Historical Society is giving veterans and community members the honor of viewing the Traveling Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a monument dedicated to the services of an unknown soldier and to the common memories of all soldiers killed in war. The tomb will arrive in Zelienople on July 1 by a guided procession as thousands of flags surround Four Corners Park.

On July 2, there will be an opening ceremony, including a color guard procession, a 21-gun salute, the playing of taps, and a bagpiper playing “Amazing Grace.” The time of opening ceremonies is TBD. The tomb is available for viewing from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and with the potential of additional hours.

There will also be a 4th of July parade on Main Street in Zelienople, which will consist of a horse-drawn hearse, bagpiper, re-enactors (Lincoln, Washington, Betsy Ross, Ben Franklin, Statue of Liberty), Veterans, decorated vehicles, and lots of patriotic spirit. The time of the parade is TBD.

Flags used to decorate Four Corners Park will be available for purchase for $1 from the Zelienople Historical Society and during the Zelienople Open Air Markets on Thursday evenings starting in May.
