The Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) will follow best practices to provide behavioral health services that foster supportive peer relationships with individuals involved in the peer support program. The CPS will demonstrate the ability to engage and serve peers, contribute to the overall success of the recovery process, and carry out all assigned duties with flexibility and an individual focus. The CPS will promote and contribute to the development of a culture of recovery and empowerment within and outside of Robin’s Home, Inc and will uphold the integrity of program goals. The CPS will provide leadership and supervision to CPS staff and create a supportive environment for growth. The CPS will report all matters pertinent to the successful obtainment of program goals and standards to the Executive Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a mentor and role model for peers, other staff members, and service providers.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the recovery model and a commitment to recovery and the ability of people with serious mental illness and/or co-occurring disorders to find meaningful lives in the community.
  • Promote empowerment, self-determination, self-learning, wellness tools, and resilience through mentoring and service coordination supports.
  • Share personal experiences of recovery to offer hope and optimism to individuals that recovery is not only possible but probable.
  • Assist in the development of a culture of recovery with mutual respect while building trusting relationships with shared responsibilities.
  • Work with peers to assist them in the development of recovery skills and the implementation of individualized plans and goals.
  • Engage appropriately with peers to support them in identifying strengths, existing supports, and connecting with community resources.
  • Provide information and opportunities for individuals to identify and choose for themselves their desired roles related to living, learning, working, and social interaction in the community.
  • Recognize, respect, and accommodate differences as they relate to culture/ethnicity/race, religion, gender identity/expression, and sexual orientation.
  • Accurately complete all required documentation and reports in a timely and collaborative manner.
  • Educate about effective use of mental health services including utilization of Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) and Mental Health Advance Directive (MHAD).
  • Support and assist individuals in their recovery and community integration process by networking with Mental Health, Substance Abuse, Housing, Mental Health Case Management, Vocational Support, and other supportive service agencies and organizations.
  • Accompany and support individuals during social, educational, occupational, and/or advocacy-based community integration activities.
  • Provide assistance with other supportive services needed to assist peers in obtaining their goals.
  • Attend meetings, training functions, and other official company functions as required.
  • Safeguard confidential information.
  • Comply with company policies.
  • Project a positive image of the company and its programs to the community and to individuals receiving services.
  • Work cooperatively with program participants and Robin’s Home, Inc team.
  • Meet productivity requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to establish a trusting relationship with peers and CPS staff including excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with good writing and organizational abilities.
  • Proficient computer skills, including experience with Adobe, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Must identify as a current or former recipient of mental health services and have a willingness to acknowledge this experience as appropriate.
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Valid PA driver’s license, proof of insurance and registration, and reliable transportation.
  • Must possess a current Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) credential through the Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB).
  • Possess or obtain a Pennsylvania Peer Specialist Certification within six months of hire.

Qualifications: Clearances

  • Completion of Child Abuse, PA Criminal History, and FBI clearances.
