One of the residents at Robin’s Home nominated Mary for the Women of Inspiration Award. Following is Mary’s reaction to being nominated.

It’s an honor to serve our women veterans. I am honored that a resident has nominated me for this award. When I received the email that she nominated me I got a little choked up. I believe in leading by example and hope that resonates with the women I serve. I can’t find the words to explain what it’s like running a transitional housing program. You have to be patient with those you serve, be flexible because you do not know what your day will bring. Each day you show up and do your best for those you serve. You provide guidance to the women and children and help them navigate life stressors and work with each of them to develop a plan that will help them meet their goals. Throughout the process you believe in them and encourage them through their journey. For many of the women we serve, this is the first time someone has believed in them and told them they are proud of them. Each day is a journey. I tell the ladies each day “show up and do your best. Eventually you will achieve the goals.”

Thank you to everyone who has made Robin’s Home possible. My dream of providing transitional housing to women veterans and their children became a reality because of everyone that believed in me and this program. I am blessed to have the opportunity to bless others that come through our doors with what others have given me. To our volunteers, sponsors, donors, the Board of Directors, the community and everyone that made this possible…Thank you!!!! A special thank you to Dennis Baglier who agreed to purchase the home. I was meeting with Dennis for the second time and he asked what could he do to help and I said to him I found a house that would be a great Robin’s Home. During that meeting he agreed to purchase it. A special thank you to Bill Kennihan and Kennihan’s Heating and Plumbing for donating the HVAC for the entire house and the plumping for our third floor. Also, for continuing to donate your time to fix any HVAC and Plumbing problems at Robin’s Home. To my mom (Carol Chitwood) for volunteering her time to watching kids while the mother is at work or an appointment. For helping transport the ladies to appointments and the store. Never give up on yourself or your dreams. As long as you show up everyday and keep working at it anything is possible.

Although I have not mentioned everyone’s name that has supported Robin’s Home please know you are the true heroes of our community!!!! Your support is what helps us continue to fulfill our mission to provide a full continuum of care to homeless, unstably houses and low-income women veterans and their children.
